Thanks to everyone who came today!
For my birthday last week, I was gifted an Art Toolkit Folio Palette. I had procrastinated over whether I wanted one or not for a while, but after seeing the way
uses it in her travel palette, I was convinced I wanted one! Here’s how I have filled it, using many colours from the Holbein Irodori Spring Palette, and a couple of Schminke and Windsor & Newton student grade gouache. I do love how slim the palette is, and I hope it will make me use the gouache more often - exciting! We talked a lot about Pencil storage, and ideal lighting solutions. Here’s some of the recommendations:
- Recommended this lamp
- suggested the Phillips Hue for a daylight lamp option with added fun colour options (we agreed this is especially fun when you have kids.)
As always, it’s so great to hang out with you all for an hour.
If anyone has suggestions for great pencil storage solutions, especially good trays, please share in the comments!

We’ve kicked off Portraits Theme:
I jumped on a Live for Warm Ups which you can all access here:
Warm up - Loose sketching faces
I sketch fast and loose. In fact, I often struggle to work slow. Sometimes, a few lines and scribbles are all that is needed and I find it SO fun.
Coming up:
Join me on my upcoming Lives, ‘Loose Lines & Warm Ups’ where I will be drawing Live to the Portraits Theme. I aim for these to be between 20-30 minutes of quick sketches, to warm up as I have done in the last couple of Lives. I thought it would be good to schedule a couple in, so if anyone want to join me, you will have it in your diary! This is all done through the app, so do download it it and you’ll get a notification to add it to your calendar. You will also get emailed details (apologies, I was hoping I could add it to this email…sorry to swamp you with invites!) Paid subs will get access to the image references I will be drawing from, which I will send in advance. Everyone else is welcome to join with any of your own work.
Upgrade to paid to access all the posts for Animals Theme and Portraits Theme, and drawing references for upcoming Lives.
Happy swatching and drawing!
