Agree agree! I tend to get so paralyzed by the "right" materials that I don't draw...so thanks for the reminder!

The right material is usually the one that's the cheapest - annoyingly so!

You are absolutely right on all points! I often use simple laser-printer paper. It's so cheap and insignificant that I can draw, draw and draw without worrying about making mistakes because I can throw them away easily. And very often my best sketches appear there rather than in a Fabriano sketchbook!

And if I'm out, my best drawings apear on a piece of opened envelope that I found in my bag, forgotten.

hahaha I SO understand! Maybe you need to create a sketchbook made of envelopes!

Honestly I'm not sure what it is - I found it in the 'everything drawer' in the kicthen! It's some kind of chisel tip pen, the type that you often see people use for calligraphy lettering. Quite hard, but fibre tip, with a wide flat tip. There are so many brands that are doing those sorts of pens - I think the fact that it is quite hard is nice. I tend to be brutal with the pressure I apply!

I have just dug out a similar sized sketchbook and vowed to use it next. I have nearly finished my current fancy pants traveller’s notebook insert. I am a sucker for the TN branding and I adore all the little things you can add to them. But the shape is all wrong for drawing, you have to vigorously clip down the pages because they refuse to lie earthing like flat.

So looking forward to joining you making many happy fast drawings while out and about

I also am sucker for the pretty books! I saw someone on youtube talk about the Paper Republic notebook system, which sounds similar in that it uses inserts. But that's a rabbit hole I have to slowly step away from!! It's great to have fun with all that stuff, but even better when they work for you! What brand is the sketchbook you're using next?

Paper Republic have sorely tempted me. They look wonderful. But I try to remember that the lighter and cheaper my sketchbook, the more I will draw in it
