27. Design vs Draw
Let me know how I could help you!
This space is where I share the exploratory work happening in my sketchbooks outside of my Design work. However, I don’t want to entirely disregard my design side here!
My client / agency relationship confidentiality clauses restrict me from sharing any of the design work I do. Also the intellectual property is not mine to share and discuss in a public space - all fair enough and not a problem.
However - I can still share insights into my working process and how I approach projects. I would love to know if any of this is of interest or helpful to share as posts?
There are many crossovers with my working processes. I know many of you are here coming from the ‘draw’ side of my diagram, but if there is anything you want to explore from the crossover or design side, let me know!
Here are some ideas:
How to prepare a sketchbook drawing for print
How to clean up scans
Explain the basics of files! Png / Jpg / Pdf / Psd …. what do I need?
Understanding resolution and Image sizes
How do you answer a packaging design brief? How to collaborate with illustrators on pack design?
Photoshop vs Illustrator: whats the difference and why might I need one over the other?
How to work with moodboards
How to get inspired by other artists without ‘copying’
Thumbnail sketching for design idea generation
Understanding colour breakdowns: CMYK & RGB
These are just some thought starters from the design side. Would anything like this be interesting? It could be little video tutorials, or even live sessions where I can create demos and you can ask questions live.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Note: This week I am away in London visiting family, so I’m keeping this a shorter post. If you’re new here, there are already 25+ posts to explore when you go to the archive on the main Substack page. Let me know if you go back to any previous posts and drop me note of what you liked!

Love the thought of exploring some of the topics from your design side! One thing I’ve been starting to think about is the possibility of making prints of my work someday but I have NO idea on how to scan things nor how to use Photoshop or Illustrator. I’ve started thinking maybe I should take a class on one (or both of those tools?) but don’t have a clue on which one would be better to know, how they differ, and what class would be best to take etc. any insights into these topics would be very much appreciated!
