Welcome to February!
January turned out to be quite the productive drawing month for me!
I set myself a few loose rules / non-rules to get in the drawing flow:
There is no set project
There are no set subject or materials
January is ‘warm up time’, everything is play
No worrying about specific projects or portfolio pieces
Draw every day (ish) but don’t stress about it if you don’t
Match the material with your mood - anything goes
Have fun, January is tough and dark. The sketchbook is here to bring some lightness.
People, let me tell you - I DREW LOADS.
In this video you will see:
Time lapse drawings of my ink on paper work
Sketchbook pages of further explorations: repeating the same image in different materials
I talk through all the work I have done in the whole month, across various sessions and from my own references.
Special thanks to Emma Carlisle for giving me permission to reference the images that she sourced for her January Drawing challenge. I wanted to include them in the time lapse, as I always find it SO fascinating to watch other artists draw from reference, and to see how the image is interpreted. I always learn a lot from seeing this in context, and I hope it is valuable for you too.
It’s a long one guys - get cosy for this one!
Can’t wait to connect with you in the comments!
